ABOUT THE SOCIETY
The University of Dar es Salaam Law society is an independent organization that was established earlier in the 1960’s by University of Dar es Salaam Faculty of law currently known as School of Law. This society was established to create a sense of awareness, unity and cooperation among its members and the entire community. It was the first organization at the faculty.
The UDLS has its own motto that is “JUSTICE FOR ALL”. This is to mean the society has its roots in ensuring that justice, fairness, transparency are enhanced at the faculty and the members are being treated according to such basics and principles.
MEMBERSHIP
This organization composes members who are students of the School, members of the staff and all School of Law alumni. Any student selected to join the School of Law is directly a member of the UDLS. However, each member pays an annual membership fee of 3,000/= at the beginning of each academic year.
CONSTITUTION OF THE SOCIETY
The UDLS has its own constitution that governs and gives a general direction to the operation of the society,its members and leaders of the organization. The constitution of the University of Dar es Salaam Law Society has been amended in 2005 but currently there have been new proposed amendments concerning the Mwl Nyerere Law Journal.
ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIETY
Being given the mandate by the 2005 constitution; the society has the following activities; the society has a task of dealing with both social and academic affairs of the students and all members. The following are activities of the society.
i) Preparing the publication of the Mwl. Nyerere Law Journal.
ii) Preparing career affairs for law students
iii) Conducting the Moot courts and trials
iv) Conducting the Lawyers Night Dinner
v) Providing legal aid to the community.
vi) Assisting students and members that have come in contact with the law
vii) Conducting interviews in the media with a legal perspective.
LEADERSHIP
The society is lead by the students who are members and the leadership is being attained by the general elections that are conducted in every academic year. However, currently the UDLS leaders are the following:

The society is monitored by the patron who is selected amongst the Faculty staff members. The activities and jurisdiction of each leader and position are elaborated in the UDLS constitution. And each leader has an obligation to follow the said principles and functions collectively in order to reach goals of the society.
OBJECTIVES OF THE UDLS
The UDLS works hand in hand with the students and all members to ensure that there is:
THE MWL NYERERE LAW JOURNAL.
This is one of the works done by the society. The journal is always prepared annually in each academic year and the current leadership is working hard to publish the 2015/2015 MwlNyerere Law Journal It’s a legal journal that comprises various texts and articles. The writers of the journal include both the students and staffs. The Mwl Nyerere Law Journal is prepared by a standing committee under the Researcher and Editor of the society. This journal enables students to acquire skills and some important legal data that are helpful for the legal field.
